Whats the point of addons without a place to use them?
To that end we've been working on a number of larger scale terrains to test and use our creations on.
Some are designed and intended to be purely Test and training maps. Others are for flying and others for gameplay.
Bovington Camp is a real location in the Southwest of England. Its primary use is to teach members of the British Forces to drive and use all the vehicles in the British inventory. But it is also used to test and develop new equipment and improvements to existing kit.
The map was started after a conversation with MikePhoenix about having a map to test our vehicles on.
(I blame him for all that followed. )
This represents a lot of blood, pain sweat and so many tears its really not funny. It is not the best product I've ever released. And I'm reluctant to release it in this state. But so many people want to get hold of it I've chosen to let it escape into the wild.
BATUS is the acronym for British Army Training Unit Suffield
It is a huge open grassland area in Canada leased by the British MoD used for training and testing. Which is what i wanted the map for. The map is and always was intended to be largely empty. That will not change. Some areas will get more fleshed out and built up. The idea was for somewhere to use long range arty, tanks and planes properly on a large scale. So I wont be adding towns and villages with proper buildings etc outside of the real life areas.
UPDATE - NOW ACE/CBA Friendly
This is another interim build. To ensure ACE and CBA does not affect the FPS I've removed 90% of the tracks. Some of these will be added back in with a later release but not to the same degree as before.
Salibury Plain Training Area is the British Army's largest open area in the South of England.
The map is huge, just like BATUS but at the same time its a lot more of a challange than BATUS ever was. It needs so many more custom objects and buildings.
The map contains a huge number of facilities and ranges, not to mention Towns are Villages, Barracks and Camps. Not to mention Boscombe Down, Stonehenge and Copehill Down. All with custom objects.
The map has been used in a number of test ops by friends and runs really well in MP.
The Stanford Training Area (STANTA), originally known as the Stanford Battle Area, is a British Military training area in the English county of Norfolk. The real area is approximately 30,000 acres (120 km2) in size; it is some 7 miles (11 km) north of the town of Thetford and 25 miles (40 km) south-west of the city of Norwich. The site is run by the Mission Ready Training Centre (MRTC).
The project has a lot of common objects and buildings with SPTA. So until we have all those completely the project is effectively paused.
The Mach Loop (also known as the Machynlleth Loop, Welsh: Dolen Mach) is a series of valleys in the United Kingdom in west-central Wales, notable for their use as low-level training areas for fast aircraft. The system of valleys lies 13 km (8 mi) east of Barmouth between the towns of Dolgellau to the north and Machynlleth to the south, from the latter of which it takes its name. The training area is part of the United Kingdom Low Flying System and lies within Low Flying Area 7 (LFA7), which covers all of Wales.
The map itself is probably never going to be finished. Atleast not to a level of detail that would make it playable for combined arms and ground ops.
The map will shortly (April 2024-ish) be released as a perpetual alpha. The source files will be made available to anyone that wants to try and finish it.
